U.S. Market Futures Pointing Lower as Treasury Yields Gain

U.S. stock futures are pointing lower in pre-market trading for Friday, September 9. The Dow Futures are at 18349.0 for a loss of -32.00 points. The S&P 500 Futures are at 2168.0 for a loss of -3.00 points. The Nasdaq Futures are lower at 4786.5 for a loss of -6.00 points. The Russell Futures are lower at 1250.0 for a loss of -1.50 points.

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, Japan’s Nikkei 225 is at 16965.76 for a gain of 6.99 points or 0.04 percent. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index is at 24099.70 for a gain of 180.36 points or 0.75 percent. China’s Shanghai Composite is at 3078.85 for a loss of -17.10 points or -0.55 percent. India’s S&P BSE Sensex is at 28797.25 for a loss of -248.03 or -0.85 percent. In Europe, the FTSE 100 is at 6841.68 for a loss of -17.02 points or -0.25 percent. Germany’s DAX is at 10648.38 for a loss of -26.91 points or -0.25 percent. France’s CAC 40 is at 4531.19 for a loss of -11.01 points or -0.24 percent. The Stoxx Europe 600 is at 348.17 for a loss of -1.15 points or -0.33 percent.

Friday’s Factors and Events

The economic calendar is light on Friday with only the Baker Hughes Rig Count. Oil prices will be on watch for the day as supply has fallen during the week and a meeting with OPEC officials is scheduled for later this month. Energy stocks are also trading with high volatility this week.

Investors will be watching Treasuries again on Friday after the European Central Bank reported Thursday that it would make no changes to its central bank borrowing rate or asset purchase program. The unchanged monetary policy leaves the central bank rate at 0 percent for Eurozone countries.
