Dow Futures Opening Update as on 17 January 2018

U.S. stock futures are higher in pre-market trading for Wednesday, January 17.The Dow Futures are trading at 25,929.00 for up with +0.43% percent or +110.00 point.   The S&P 500 Futures are trading at 2,788.75 for up with +0.22% percent or +6.25 point. The Nasdaq Futures are trading at 6,779.25 for up with +0.24% percent or +16.50 point.

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, Japan’s Nikkei 225 are trading at 23,868.34 with a loss of -0.35% percent or -83.47 point. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading at 31,873.10  with a loss of -0.10% percent or -31.65 point. China’s Shanghai Composite are trading at 3,444.67  for up with +0.24% percent or +8.08 point. India’s BSE Sensex are trading at 34,946.35 for up with +0.50% percent or +175.30 point at 12:15 PM.The FTSE 100 are trading at 7,734.02  with a loss of  -0.28% percent or  -21.91 point. Germany’s DAX are trading at 13,227.08 with a loss of  -0.15% percent or  -19.25 point. France’s CAC 40 are trading at 5,503.83  with a loss of -0.18% percent or -9.99 point. The Stoxx Europe 600 are trading at 397.57   with a loss of -0.19% percent or  -0.79  point.

Wednesday’s Factors and Events

The Dow Jones industrial average ended 10.33 points lower at 25,792.86. At its session highs, the index traded above 26,000 and 283 points higher. The Dow also posted its biggest one-day reversal since Feb. 10, 2016.

The S&P 500 closed 0.4 percent lower at 2,776.42. The index had traded above 2,800 for the first time earlier in the session. The Nasdaq composite also erased gains, finishing 0.5 percent lower at 7,223.69.

 Congress needs to pass a spending bill by the end of Friday to avoid a government shutdown. A point of contention between Republicans and Democrats is an immigration bill which Democrats want to pass. Those talks have complicated efforts to keep the government open.

U.S. market were lower on Tuesday. For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 25,792.86   with a loss of  -0.04% percent or -10.33 point. The S&P 500 closed at 2,776.42 with a loss of -0.35% percent or  -9.82 point. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 7,223.69 with a loss of -0.51% percent or  -37.38 point.

Other leading market index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,572.97   with a loss of  -1.19% percent or  -19.00 point; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 960.12  with a loss of  -0.93%  percent or -9.05 point; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closed at 1,952.07   with  a loss of -0.71% percent or -13.90 point; the S&P 100 Index closed at 1,231.79   with a loss of -0.22% percent or  -2.76 point; the Russell 3000 Index closed at 1,639.86 with a loss of  -0.46% percent or  -7.50 point; the Russell 1000 Index closed at 1,536.68 with a loss of  -0.40% percent or -6.10  point; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closed at 25,792.86 with a loss of -0.04% percent or -10.33 point.
