Thursday’s Factors and Events

U.S. government debt prices were mostly lower on Thursday, as investors digested the latest statement made by the Federal Reserve and geared up for more data releases.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note sat higher at around 2.305 percent at 7:57 a.m. ET, while the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond was slightly higher at 2.914 percent. Bond yields move inversely to prices.

On Wednesday, the Federal Open Market Committee left interest rates unchanged as widely expected.

 In a statement, the Fed said that the committee expects to “begin implementing its balance sheet normalization program relatively soon, provided that the economy evolves broadly as anticipated”, but added that inflation remains below its target of 2 percent.
