U.S. stock futures are lower in pre-market trading for Wednesday, August 09.The Dow Futures are trading at 21,998.00 with a loss of -0.15% percent or -32.00 point. The S&P 500 Futures are trading at 2,464.75 with a loss of -0.32% percent or -8.00 point.The Nasdaq Futures are trading at 5,889.75 with a loss of -0.48% percent or -29.38 point.

In overnight trading in the Eastern Hemisphere, Japan’s Nikkei 225 are trading at 19,738.71 with a loss of –1.29% percent or –257.30 point. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng are trading at 27,763.26 with a loss of –0.33% percent or –91.65 point. China’s Shanghai Composite are trading at 3,273.23 with a loss of –0.26%percent or –8.64 point. India’s S&P BSE Sensex are trading at 31,887.68 with a loss of –0.40% percent or –126.51 point at 12:15 PM . In Europe, the FTSE 100 are trading at 7,486.87 with a loss of –0.74% percent or –55.54 point. Germany’s DAX are trading at 12,139.89 with a loss of –1.24% percent or –152.16 point. France’s CAC 40 are trading at 5,136.23 with a loss of –1.58% percent or –82.66 point. The Stoxx Europe 600 are trading at 379.41 with a loss of -0.85% percent or -3.24 point.

Wednesday’s Factors and Events

U.S. stock index futures were lower on Wednesday as investors moved away from risky assets following escalating tensions between North Korea and the United States.

* North Korea said it was considering firing missiles at Guam, a U.S.-held Pacific island, after President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned the nuclear-armed nation that it would face “fire and fury” if it threatened the United States Safe-haven assets gained. Gold XAU= rose 0.6 percent, while the Swiss franc EURCHF= was on track to post its biggest single day rise in about two-and-a-half years.

* U.S. stocks closed lower on Tuesday after Trump’s comments sparked a late afternoon selling. The Dow industrials snapped a 9-day streak of closing records.

Tuesday’s Activity

U.S. market indexes were lower on Tuesday. For the day the Dow Jones Industrial Average closed at 22,085.34 with a loss of –0.15% percent or –33.08 point.The S&P 500 closed at 2,474.92 with a loss of –0.24% percent or –5.99 point. The Nasdaq Composite closed at 6,370.46 with a loss of –0.21% percent or –13.31 point.

Other leading market index closes included the small-cap Russell 2000 Index closed at 1,410.15 with a loss of -0.28% percent or -4.02 point; the S&P 600 Small-Cap Index closed at 851.48 with a loss of –0.38% percent or –3.27 point; the S&P 400 Mid-Cap Index closed at 1,748.01 with  a loss of –0.28% percent or –4.89 point; the S&P 100 Index closed at 1,095.22 with  a loss of –0.18% percent or –1.99 point; the Russell 3000 Index closed at 1,462.98 with a loss of –0.25% percent or –3.69 point; the Russell 1000 Index closed at 1,370.42 with a loss of –0.25% percent or –3.42 point; and the Dow Jones U.S. Select Dividend Index closed at 22,085.34 with a loss of –0.15% percent or –33.08 point.
